The 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Hot Melt Adhesive 3789 produces a high strength, fuel- and oil-resistant bond on high performance metals, plastics, vinyl, wood, and other surfaces. This hot melt offers a long open time, extreme heat resistance, and is available in a variety of sizes to meet your specific production needs.

The 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Hot Melt Adhesive 3789 offers good heat resistance, fuel and oil resistance and an open bond time that allows for adjustment and positioning. It bonds to a variety of wood surfaces and lightweight metals on furniture, automotive interiors, outdoor applications and small appliances. Its 50-second open bond time is sufficient for positioning and adjusting, and supports efficient production for many applications. Hot melt adhesives, also known as glue sticks, are liquefied thermoplastic adhesives available in both low and high-temperature versions. Low temperature hot melt adhesives are applied at 250°F/121°C temperatures, which makes them ideal for bonding electronics, plastics, cloth and other heat sensitive materials. High temperature hot melt adhesives are applied at 380°F/193°C and produce a stronger bond than the low temperature hot melts. The melted adhesive is then extruded through a nozzle using a 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Hot Melt Applicator by either pneumatic pressure, a mechanical trigger mechanism, or with pressure applied directly on the stick. Different nozzles can be used to apply thin, wide strips or narrow, thicker beads. Hot melt adhesive generally sets quickly, ranging from a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on the adhesive formulation.
