Frequently Asked Questions

  • Wear the system for as long as your doctor has ordered, at which time the dressing will be removed by your doctor.
  • For the 14-day unit, a standard 3M™ Prevena™ Dressing will require a dressing change after 7 days. A 3M™ Prevena Restor™ Dressing can be used for 14 days and is not typically changed. Follow your doctor's instructions.
  • Refer to the Alert Guide (PDF, 1.61 MB) or call 3M Customer Technical Support at 1-800-668-5403 if you have questions.
  • This portable unit should always be kept turned on for the time your doctor has instructed. The unit can be worn under or over your clothing and includes a carrying case with adjustable straps, so you can use it multiple ways.
  • Keep your therapy unit in a safe place where tubing will not become kinked or pinched, and it cannot be pulled off a table or dropped onto the floor.
  • This therapy unit has a rechargeable battery and comes with a charger. Bring your charger with you if you are gone for extended periods of time. For convenience, consider charging your therapy unit battery while you are sleeping.
  • If cleared by your doctor, a quick, light shower is okay. Keep the therapy unit away from direct water spray. Do not submerge dressing in water. When towel drying, be careful not to disrupt the dressing.
    • Hold the ON/OFF button down until therapy stops
    • Close the clamp located on the connection tubing
    • Disconnect the tubing from the therapy unit

    Once finished, complete instructions in reverse order to resume therapy.
  • Dressing removal and therapy unit disposal should be done under the guidance of your healthcare professional.

The 3M™ Prevena™ Incision Management System is intended to manage the environment of closed surgical incisions and surrounding intact skin in patients at risk for developing post-operative complications, such as infection, by maintaining a closed environment via the application of a negative pressure wound therapy system to the incision. The 3M™ Prevena™ Incision Dressing skin interface layer with silver reduces microbial colonization in the fabric.
