Help make production more predictable with masking tapes and duct tapes that perform reliably and remove cleanly.
Knowing what to expect from your materials helps make production more predictable, whether you’re assembling pieces in a factory or putting materials together on a job site. At 3M, we apply the science of adhesion to deliver innovative solutions that helps improve the design and manufacturing processes of companies around the world. Whether you’re looking to mask, protect, seal or otherwise modify surfaces, 3M has a solution for you.
We know it can be overwhelming to understand the differences between them — and the impact they will have on your job. That’s why we’ve made masking simple.
In our extensive masking line, you will find a range of characteristics such as adhesive holding power and line sharpness to meet different application requirements for virtually every industrial application. 3M products also feature:
Featured Utility Masking Tapes
Cost-effective crepe paper tape that holds, bundles, seals and performs other non-critical taping jobs. Controlled unwind to prevent shredding or splintering and tears easily from the roll by hand.
A go-to tape that holds strongly in settings where surface temperatures can reach up to 93°C (200°F). Light tan crepe paper tape has low unwind and sticks to many surfaces, making it ideal for everyday use.
A pressure-sensitive tape for instant stick and reliable hold. It is an excellent solution for most general purpose and entry-level paint applications.
Utility Masking Tapes
Featured Specialty High Temperature Tapes
Ideal for bake temperatures up to 149°C (300°F) or for multiple bake cycles. Superior adhesion to metal, rubber, glass and plastic while removing cleanly in one piece with no adhesive residue.
An economical high temperature tape for general masking applications. Good holding power with good adhesion at a wide range of temperatures.
Industrial masking tape that provides strong holding power and exceptional high-temperature resistance. Clean, one-piece removal at bake temperatures up to 162°C (325°F) for 30 minutes.
Specialty High Temperature Tapes
Featured Industrial Painting Tapes
Sticks instantly to most surfaces, including metal, rubber, glass and plastic, and removes cleanly in one piece. Helps achieve good paint lines in low to medium temperature applications up to 107°C (225°F).
Achieves sharp paint lines in critical masking applications where temperatures reach up to 121°C (250°F). Sticks instantly to a variety of surfaces and removes cleanly in one piece with no adhesive residue.
The rubber adhesive sticks instantly and offers strong holding power that resists lifting, curling and adhesive transfer when removed from surfaces.
Industrial Painting Tapes
Featured Fine Line Tapes
Sticks instantly to most surfaces, including metal, rubber, glass and plastic, and removes cleanly in one piece. Helps achieve good paint lines in low to medium temperature applications up to 107°C (225°F).
A highly conformable thin tape that provides excellent colour line separation in high-temperature paint processes. Removes cleanly after bake cycles with temperatures reaching 149°C (300°F) for 30 minutes.
A highly conformable, high temperature, vinyl fine line tape for fascia panels, two-tone and other multiple colour applications where critical paint break lines are required.
Fine Line Tapes
This family of rugged cloth and duct tapes adheres to most surfaces for applications ranging from bundling to moisture proofing, sealing to splicing, reinforcing to hanging poly drapes.
Featured Industrial Tapes
The go-to choice for demanding jobs sticks immediately and stays with good holding power on irregular, hard-to-bond surfaces without lifting — even on most plastics.
Durable tape that resists curling and tears off the roll cleanly for easy application in MRO and construction. Removable with little or no residue for up to one month after application on opaque, non-glass surfaces.
Unique design offers high instant adhesion coupled with maximum conformability. Ideal for contoured surfaces and light duty applications.
Industrial Tapes
Featured Utility Tapes
Economical choice for sealing, holding and marking, with a high-tack synthetic rubber adhesive that sticks well to many surfaces.
Unique design offers high instant adhesion coupled with maximum conformability. Ideal for contoured surfaces and light duty applications.
Utility Tapes
Featured Scotch® Flatback Tapes
A reliable tape, ideal for splicing and paint masking applications where adhesion in high temperature bake cycles is necessary. The orange backing makes this tape great for applications requiring a unique colour.
This high performance flatback tape is excellent for splicing liner boards, bundling, holding, reinforcing, wrapping and protecting. Excellent for general purpose splicing at temperatures as high as 93°C (200°F).
General purpose tape with exceptional tack and holding power ideal for a range of packaging and low-heat web processing applications, where adhesion to paper products is necessary.
Scotch® Flatback Tapes
Featured Specialty Tapes
Removes cleanly for up to six months from most opaque surfaces even after exposure to sun and outdoor weathering. Strong waterproof backing resists wear, abrasion, moisture and weathering.
Multipurpose tape proven to work especially well on stucco and other coated exteriors. Removes cleanly for up to one month after UV exposure to sun and outdoor weathering for outdoor masking, holding, patching, bundling, and marking.
Ultra-thick, water-resistant backing resists wear and abrasion while still tearing easily by hand. Designed to provide a maximum-strength, long-lasting solution for even the most demanding heavy-duty applications. Instantly grips many substrates including metal, glass, plastic and sealed concrete.
Specialty Tapes
Crepe masking, fine line tapes and masking films are used for high-temperature masking, end-of-line paint repair and two-tone paint jobs. Duct tapes are used for covering holes and for holding glass windows or temporary protective plastic sheeting.
Crepe masking and fine line tapes are used in the exterior paint process of the aircraft for paper hanging and creating sharp paint lines. Duct tapes and masking films are used in ground applications to protect the landing gear during the paint process.
Crepe masking tapes are used to mask large areas and in two-tone paint processes, while fine line tapes are very conformable for masking irregular shapes and curves to create specialty designs and custom paint jobs. Duct tapes are used for covering holes and temporary holding.
After assembly, a boat is masked before entering the paint booth, for a painting or gel coating process. Good masking solutions reduce paint re-work and minimize slivering when the tape is removed. Masking and duct tapes are also used to protect interior surfaces that are prone to scratches and dings.
Crepe masking tapes are used to mask large areas and in two-tone paint processes, while conformable fine line tapes are used to mask curves and irregular shapes. Duct tapes are used for covering holes and temporary holding.
Masking tapes protect areas during painting and sealing operations, with specialized tapes for stucco application and flatback tapes used to seam temporary floor protection. Duct tapes are used for bundling and for hanging heavy plastic sheeting, and may be chosen for clean removal.
Flatback tapes are used in paper mills for core tabbing, sealing the tail during the winding process and holding down protective layers around finished rolls. They are also used to splice two webs of paper together both at the mill and at the printing press.
